Not only is Petra the only knight in the whole kingdom of Pen Pieyu, she is also the famous Princess Knight, who tamed the wild dragon, Snarls. Petra's father, the king of Pen Pieyu, doesn't want Petra to go on adventures and learn how to joust. Instead, he writes a new rule that forces Petra to go to a Talent School, where she must learn one special princess talent. Shocked and outraged, Petra looks for a way to escape but comes up short.
On her way to talent school, Petra meets up with a strange pink prince who agrees to go with her. Adventures await Petra at this new talent school. What will Petra's talent be? Will Petra's parents finally break Petra's fiery spirit?
Opinion:
Petra of Pen Pieyu is a girl of strength, wit, and an unbreakable spirit. I admire Robinson for stepping up and writing a medieval series about a girl who doesn't need any sort of prince. This whole series, this book especially, lifts my spirits every time I read it.
I loved the easy-to-follow storyline and all the strange, silly characters. My favorite part was the strange monsters that showed up towards the end of the book.
The mini-story at the end was strange, but strange isn't a bad thing. I loved the randomness of Petra just deciding to tell a story about fairies.
This is a book about being who you want to be, not who other people want you to be. Petra is a princess who wants to be a knight, so she becomes a knight. Snarls is a dragon who wants to be a chef, so he becomes a chef. Prince Duce Crablips wants to learn how to crochet, so he learns how to crochet.
I think it's a great lesson to be original, even if it's a little weird.
