A Writer's Rant on Dealing with Psycopaths, Narcissists, Ass kissers

I am a  writer who has dabbled in learning psychology for years. The psychology behind human behaviour is so exciting and relevant to me in my personal relationships and in writing.

Until several years ago, I didn’t know what a narcissist/sociopath/office-ass kisser really was. But after much reading and studying, I now understand that I’ve worked with and befriended a few of them through the years. In fact, I quit my job of over 35 years because of such people. I just can’t play their games. No regrets.

These are people who manipulate the circumstances and will throw their friends, teammates, and even family under the bus to make themselves look good.

Narcissists, sociopaths, ass kissers, make the world a more challenging place for regular people to work and function in. The average person is not interested in playing games nor trying to figure out what the game is in the first place.

Sociopaths tend to bring on their grandiose ideas of being superior to others.  A person with a personality disorder manifesting itself in extremely antisocial attitudes and behaviour.

A narcissist is a clinically diagnosed personality disorder characterized by grandiosity, a need for admiration, and a lack of empathy toward other people.

An ass-kisser (Sycophancy?) is a person who behaves obsequiously to gain favour. A person who kisses ass to move their own career/friendships forward, often at the expense of other employees or friends.

I’ve worked with several of these kinds of people and they are pathetic, only in it for themselves, with no empathy or team spirit, and only their own self being the key to their success in any situation.

Yet, as writers, where would we find all this juicy character information if we did not know the psychological makeup of these kinds of people?

If you’ve encountered these types of people, don’t take it as a negative shey have given us writers our villains in storytelling and, ultimately, made us better writers.
